So much for the entente cordiale. The deputy mayor of Paris, one Anne Hidalgo, has unleashed a startling tirade against our kingdom’s capital – and its mayor, our very own Boris Johnson. London is a “suburb of Paris”, Boris is “boastful”, and Paris is still the number-one tourist destination, she insisted.
Well, Boris has plenty to be boastful about. London has been getting safer, cleaner and wealthier for years; it has weathered the global recession; and while the two cities can argue over which attracts the largest number of tourist, London is certainly gaining ground, especially since the Olympics of 2012.
